Your child has received a filling today. As previously discussed during the procedure, your child’s cavity was very deep. With deep cavities, there is always a chance that microscopic bacteria and decay are present and that the tooth may get infected in the future. Dr. Woo has applied a medicine that will slowly release fluoride into the tooth to protect it. There are a few things to watch out for when your child has received a large filling;
- Abscess: This will appear as a small “pimple” on the gum above the affected tooth.
- Tooth Sensitivity: Your child may complain that the tooth hurts when eating or drinking something cold.
Be sure to call and bring your child in if these symptoms occur. They are signs that the tooth is possibly infected and further action needs to take place.
